We watched a video about Susan B Anthony. In that video you saw a portion of the trial of Susan B Anthony and you heard part of the testimony given against her. I would like you to go to the link below and find Susan's speech that she made to the judge after he handed down the judgement of guilty. Do you agree with what she said? What were the most important points that she made and why do you think so?

Write a paragraph expressing your opinion of immigration. Do you believe that immigration should have been allowed so freely during the early 1800s? How about today? What do you feel are the strengths and weaknesses of the current immigration policies in the United States?
Two weeks after the fire, a grand jury indicted Triangle Shirtwaist owners Isaac Harris and Max Blanck on charges of manslaughter.
You can find a transcript of the trial at one of my favorite sites on the web:
http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/triangle/triangleaccount.html
In his opening statement, Charles Bostwick told jurors that he would prove through witnesses that the ninth floor door that might have been an escape route for victims was locked at the time of the fire. More particularly, he said he would prove that the locked door caused the death of Margaret Schwartz, one of the 146 workers killed on March 25.
On December 27, Judge Crain read to the jury the text of Article 6, Section 80, of New York's Labor Law: "All doors leading in or to any such factory shall be so constructed as to open outwardly where practicable, and shall not be locked, bolted, or fastened during working hours." Crain told the jury that in order to return a verdict of guilty they must first find that door was locked during the fire--and that the defendants knew or should have known it was locked. The judge also told the jury that they must find beyond a reasonable doubt that the locked door caused the death of Margaret Schwartz.
After deliberating for just under two hours, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. After the verdict, one juror, Victor Steinman declared, "I believed that the door was locked at the time of the fire, but we couldn't find them guilty unless we believed they knew the door was locked."
What do you think? Was justice served? Why or why not? To help with your answer go to the link above and read what the witnesses said about that day.

For homework you were to define these terms: Industrial: of or pertaining to industry, machines, and production, Industrialization: the process of implementing machines and mass production in place of human skill and craftsmanship handmade: : the processof making a good through human skill and craftsmanship, and machine-made; the process of makin a good by the process of implementing machines and mass production.
We brought in handmade and machine-made items. We talked about how the handmade items cost more because they were made one at a time. While machine-made items were more affordable because of mass production.
For the first time products were more affordable to Americans because of mass production.
What are some benefits that we gained from industrialization? In your opinion what was sacrificed? Describe the problems that could emerge from industrialization.

What was an interesting fact about the battle that you studied for your scrapbook? When I studied these battles I found it interesting that in The Battle of the Bulge it was the first time that Americans had ever been attacked by jet bombers. Share with us what you found interesting. Make sure you note what battle it is that you researched.

Today we learned how families during the Great Depression were resourceful. I still wear clothes that have been given to me by my sisters, but usually they are clothes that they have bought and then decided they didn't like. Can you imagine your mom taking your sibling's clothes and cutting the seams, reversing the material, and resewing it to fit you? I have 4 or 5 pairs of gloves children during the depression wore gloves that were made from scraps of material.
If we were to enter a depression now, how would or could you be resourceful?
What a wonderful day! We have witnessed something that only happens in America. It has made me so proud to be able to claim that I am an American! The excitement, the promise, the patriotism welled up so much emotion I could barely stand it. I will never forget this day. I will never forget watching President Obama moments before he became president as he was walking toward the balcony where he would take the oath of office. The look on his face was full of thought. I stood next to the sink in the classroom thinking, "What would be running through my mind if I were him? What could he possibly be thinking?" I witnessed so many older citizens who were brought to tears because they never dreamed of witnessing a day like today. I witnessed children who don't realize that America changed today, but will understand more fully as they get older. I stood today and listened to a beautiful healing prayer but also realized there are many things in America that need to be fixed. Still, this evening so many things are going through my mind it's difficult to put all this down.
Your assignment is to try to put your thoughts about today into words. I would love hear what you were/are thinking.
America has just ended in The Great War! Whew! They made it with fewer casualties than any other country involved. They want nothing else to do with the problems with the rest of the world. Those other countries will have to deal with their own economic and political problems themselves. America is going to focus on maintaining its new title as a World Power. Things have changed because of the war. Women have become more independent, men have seen places they had never dreamed of seeing, and the African Americans have experienced countries that have no Jim Crow laws. World War 1 has changed America. What does the next decade hold for America??
What do you do after you have been through a tough situation? Maybe you have just made up with some friends that you have been mad at for a long time. How do you celebrate? What do you think the American people did after World War 1?
Remember NO LAST NAMES!!!! You have until Jan. 7th to post and get tickets for your answers.
