The Changing Roles of Women

The_British_nurse_and_heroine_Edith_Cavell___small.jpgThere was an atrocity committed against an English nurse named Edith Cavell.  Research her heroic deeds involving the lives of Allied soldiers and how she was executed by the Germans.

Why is she considered a heroine?  What was her crime in the eyes of the Germans?  If you were hired by Britain to create a memorial in her honor describe what your creation would be.

Edith Cavell helped soldiers trapped in German occupied parts of Belgium to escape into Neutral Hollad. She was arrest on Aug 3, 1915 for helping the soldiers. Her trial lasted only two days and ended with her being sentenced to death by shooting. On Oct. 12, 1915 she was executed by firing squad in the National Rifle Range located on the outskirts of Brussels. Yes she was considered a heroine because she helped save lives. If I need a memorial I would have a statue of her at the National Rifle Range where she was executed, and have is say "Our Heroine, Saving Lives of Soldiers."

Edith Cavell is a heroine because she helped hundreds of soldiers from the Allied forces to escape occupied Belgium to the Netherlands. Edith violated the German military law and was arrested for habouring Allied soldiers. I would build a statue of Edith Cavell and inscribe "Always Help Others At Any Cost".
